PROGRAMS

Canskate is a program designed for children aged 3 years and up. It is taught on Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings. Skaters are grouped by age and ability as they progress through seven badge levels that teach the six fundamental moves of skating (go forward, go backward, stop, turn, spin and jump).
This learn-to-skate program prepares children for future activities such as rec skating, figure skating, hockey or ringette. For safety, gloves and helmets
are very strongly recommended for all participants in the program.
New - Parent and Tot Program
During each Canskate session, the skaters,
accompanied by one parent, will receive group lessons with a Skate Canada coach. Cost
will be the same as a Canskate session; the parent must also purchase a Skate Canada
membership ($35.00)

CanPowerSkate is the only nationally regulated powerskating program in Canada and was developed by a team of hockey, figure skating and ringette experts. This action-packed, high energy skating program focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations.
CanPowerSkate is geared to skaters who can already skate forward, backward, and stop (CanSkate Badge 3 or equivalent). For safety reasons participants must wear full hockey/ringette equipment that is CSA approved.

Starskate Jordan offers a full range of programs for skaters wishing to continue the sport of figure skating beyond the recreational level. The Skate Canada Test System allows skaters to have their skills assessed by an evaluator who will judge their performance against national standards. Unlike the informal testing and badges of the recreational programs, skaters trying tests must normally wait until a scheduled “Test Day” – usually about 3 times per season.
Some skaters choose to enter competitions (Future Stars, Boston Pizza, etc.) where they have the opportunity to skate their “program” (a solo choreographed to music) against other skaters of similar age and skating level. A panel of judges ranks each of the skaters.
Skaters in the STARSkate Program are responsible for booking a professional coach and buying freeskate ice. Private lessons are available in all of the skating disciplines – freeskate, dance, skills, interpretive and pairs. Lesson fees are paid directly to the coach and are in addition to the ice fees paid to the club. For safety, skaters must skate at their ability level. At our club the skating levels are: Junior – not passed any freeskate test; Intermediate – passed Preliminary Freeskate (Parts 1 and 2); and Senior – passed Junior Bronze Freeskate (Parts 1 and 2). Skaters may “skate down” (i.e. an intermediate skater may skate on a junior session) but only “skate up” when in a lesson and paying a guest fee.

AdultSkate provides learn-to-skate sessions. Skaters get a group lesson with a professional coach. These lessons are tailored to the skaters' individual levels from beginner through more advanced levels.
Skaters can also work on test levels. At the end of the regular half hour session, there is some time available for individual practice, followed by a stroking session.
